Position Summary:

The position involves working with a small team on all aspects of running an Alaskan production peony and cut flower farm using organic methods. The position reports to the Farm Owner and Operations Manager. The Farm Manager will be expected to work with in house floral designers and with a small field crew to complete all farming tasks.

Tasks include completing and overseeing setting up our indoor growing equipment, making soil blocks, propagation, pest management using organic methods, hardening off, monitoring the weather, transplanting, laying weed fabric, building hoop houses, weeding, irrigation and basic irrigation maintenance, fertilizing, bucket washing, tool maintenance and tool shed organization, harvest, post-harvest handling, in both greenhouse and fields. We are also looking at expanding our vegetable offerings to have a small amount of stock to sell at our retail farm shop.

The Farming Manager will work with the Farm Owner to create a winter grow plan and seeding schedule. They will work to propagate enough flower varieties to provide our floral designers with materials for bouquets to be sold in our retail store, for our in-house weddings, as well as to sell wholesale directly to floral designers and outside markets. Once the season gets under way, most of the farm tasks are centered around the harvest, packing and delivery schedule and staying on top of weeding and maintenance. The Farming Manager will also oversee our Grounds Crew to help maintain the overall landscape and infrastructure of the farm. The Farming Manager will work with our Wedding Planner and Operations Manager to coordinate working around scheduled weddings, events, and Airbnb guests.

This position will require an individual with energy and talents to support our next phase of business growth in our small farm boutique, Farmersdottir located at Mountain Field Farm. The merchandising strategy must coincide with the store and farm’s brand, products, and target market, using skills in visual design and space optimization to create appealing window, counter and in-store displays. The ideal candidate will have the ability to source props, creative materials, and accessories for store displays in a cost-effective manner, within a given budget, and with reuse/recycle philosophies in mind.
